About Tignes

Tignes, in France’s Savoie region, is possibly the most exciting major ski resort in the world – famous for it’s huge variety of challenging skiing. The Tignes and Val D’Isere lift systems are linked together to form the Espace Killy region, containing over 300km of pistes. If you want guaranteed snow, Tignes is the place to be. At 2100m high, the resort is 300m higher than Val D’Isere and seems to keep the snow quality noticeably longer. The highest point in resort is at the top of Grand Motte, where the cable car drops you off at 3456m, allowing you to ski a total descent of 1.2km in a single run.

Tignes is particularly well known for the its off-piste skiing. The resort has a large number of Naturides – black runs that are left unpisted but made safe so the skier can experience the joys of off-piste skiing without the high risks and expense of the necessary equipment.

There is plenty of skiing for the beginner and intermediate too, and a lively nightlife especially in Val Claret.

The Tignes Resort

The main areas in resort is divided into seven villages with Tignes Val Claret being the highest, and Tignes Le Brevieres the lowest. With the exception of Tignes Les Brevieres, all of the villages are linked by the free bus service.

Hi Shaul,

You'll probably be OK - there is only one point at the bottom of Dahu when it isn't really wide. Your only problem might be the length, but you can always try skiing down to the bottom of Dahu first.

Have fun.

May I ask a few questions about the Grande Motte Runs? I am a beginner, confident on blues but not yet on reds. I am planning to take the Funiculaire up and then the cable car to the top. I wanted to know if you could describe the "glacier" and "dahu" runs that lead down to the "double M" - are they steep? are they wide? I was told the "double M" is fairly easy but I want to be sure and also want to know about the top runs leading to it. Howe long do you think it will take from the top all the way down to Val Claret? Thanks
